The MiniMegaCon Adventure Begins!

I’m at the Eastern Iowa Airport, awaiting my flight. There’s a dude near me here who’s ringtone is what sounds like a Chris Cornell scream. Perhaps he too is going to MMC?

New Creator Blogs!

We’ve spilled over into two new blogs, with more to come!

Ian has Thought Bubbles, and I’ve got The Infinite Napkin. Links are in the bar at right for future reference. Enjoy!

High Plains Observer Perryton on John Ira Thomas

The online news outlet for Perryton, Texas takes a look at me.

Getting ramped up for the upcoming Orlando Mini MegaCon, this August 22-23. Today is a full production day, hoping to knock out 4 pages of MIV material for a special project.

Also, to all those out there wondering what else is coming: Nikki Harris #3, Man is Vox #3 and Dub Trub #4.
Now, to the boards!

Our Lubbock Comics Connection

Up at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s website, a profile of former Lubbockite John Ira Thomas. Have a look.

We’re a bunch of characters

It’s true. And we’re growing.

We’ve been using “Words and Pictures, Differently” for a while now, but Carter got up the other morning and called me to say a new slogan had come to him in his dreams. We’re a bunch of characters. Whenever you visit the main site we flash all these faces at you just to show off the amount and variety of what we do here at Candle Light Press. Now we’re going to show you a bit more, hence the refabbing of the website (with more to come).

Another thing that will be happening soon is that you’ll have more opportunities to stare us right in the face at conventions. Yep, we’re increasing our con presence. First up will be the Mini Mega Con in Orlando Aug 22-23. We’re debuting our leaner meaner booth presence, ie what we can take on the plane with us. We’ll focus on having the newer books on hand and also beefing up our webstore with bigger and longer previews of each and every book. We’ll also start offering all of the CLP library in the store. You’ll still be able to get our books at your local bookstore, but we’ll be doing tempting sales from time to time to help you fill out your library.

We’ll also be going back to the Minensota Fallcon for the first time in a few years. That’s Oct 10-11.

Other cons we’re looking at–the C2E2 in Chicago in 2010 (although one has to apply for a table and hear back from them–we’ll let you know if we pass muster or not), one in Phoenix, and if the Mini Megacon is as good as advertised (and they’ve been a big improvement over the MoCCA experience already), we’ll have a go at Megacon proper. Any other cons we should go to? Are we neglecting your region? Let us know!

Also, we’ve just put up a new site for those of you who surf the web on your phone, try m.candlelightpress.com for a mini-site with a complete catalog and links to where to get them! You mobile folks should also try the rechristened candlelightpress.net for this newsfeed on the go! We’ve also rescued out old creatorsondemand.com from domain hell and got her going again. Both look swell on my phone, I tell ya.

We’re doing a lot more short-form work lately, making use of the color processes from our printer. Due to costs, the color books will have to be sold only in our store to keep your costs down, but we will be collecting things into snazzy black and white volumes too.

There will be new characters, and the old ones will still be kicking around. There’s much more to come!

SPROCKET: Gaps In Film Reviewed

One of our customers at MoCCA picked up a couple of books and wrote about them here.

SPROCKET: GAPS IN FILM is an interesting hybrid of art and text, a guide to lost, unreleased movies that never actually existed.”
