In one form or another, Candle Light Press has been making comics since 1995, when the minicomic SNAPSHOTS appeared in various places around Iowa City. Yeah, the cover says Jan 1996, but it was really late 1995. Time in publishing is really weird. Since then we’ve made all kinds of comics and graphic novels–take a peek at the store just to get a sense of it. Regardless, we’re calling this the fifteenth year and to celebrate we’re going to more cons than ever before.
We’re confirmed at Megacon, MoCCA Art Fest and C2E2. We’ll be getting things ready for the newly redubbed SpringCon (the beloved Fallcon shifted to avoid the NYCC juggernaut) and the Comic Book I-Con, as well as waiting on word on space from the aformentioned juggernaut New York Comicon. Individual CLP-ers are thinking/planning on solo appearances here and there as well; more as those materialize.
We’re also continuing last year’s practice of giving out con-exclusive postcards with art by various CLP artists. We only make so many and just give them away. It was very satisfying to see people walk by without making eye-contact do a 180 when the look at the card I just handed them. We’re also going to shift to a leaner and meaner table presence. We’ll be bringing a smaller variety of books and largely focussing on the con and online exclusive stuff. Since the rest is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc, it’s not as if you can’t get it elsewhere. And never mind the “meaner” part; heck ,we’ll be sweet as can be.
